(Check out the October 10, 2017 Update you won’t even believe!)
After observing what you all have thoughtfully (or in some cases, unknowingly) chosen to proudly display at your front door through 9,752 homes, as far as animals or creatures are concerned, I expected dogs, cows, cats, birds or bunnies.
But surprise – by a virtual unanimous decision, it’s the FROG! So here’s to all the interesting amphibians that greet me at the door.
The coolest part about all this are the stories behind some of them: One shared how what started as a clay-colored piece got subsequently painted by their grandpa. Then there’s a 50-year old frog nestled among the greenery from someone’s parent’s home after it was sold.
As of March 5, 2016, we have a NEW Top Frog! The award goes to a wonderful home with TWENTY-SEVEN adorable green pals, and that’s NOT including a few more duplicates they had! Congratulations, John & Sharon.
BUT: October 10, 2017. 4:06 pm. Not 30. Not 35. Not 40. But FORTY FOUR FROGS! Of course I jumped at the chance to photograph the entire collection. TOADally awesome. FROGgin’ awesome!!! Thank you Toni! Enjoy.
Funny story: A very nice lady tells me her mom says in the Japanese culture, frogs are a reminder to “come back home,” a wonderful new learning moment for me, When asked what it meant to me, the first thing that came out of my mouth was, “tasty meal!” And to that she broke out in laughter, and asked me if I had actually eaten them. “Yes,” I replied. As a matter of fact, the way frogs are presented in many Chinese menus use two characters that literally mean “chicken of the field.” Brings a whole new light to “tastes like chicken.” 🙂
PS: No frogs have been harmed, or eaten during this process. Yet. 🙂
PS #2: In the spirit of “Where’s Waldo?”, if you truly have nothing better to do, I challenge you to “Where’s Jack?”. Yes, somewhere in these hundreds of frogs, I’m literally in ONE of the pictures.
Enjoy.
